MTB Stag Do Activities - Jon Gooch

Yesterday Gold Medal Sports ran a MTB stag do activity for Jon Gooch and 7 of his friends. We took the guys to Brandon Country Park on the Norfolk/Suffolk boarder for a days mountain biking around the forest.

When everybody arrived we filled them up with bacon rolls and plenty of tea/coffee. Everybody seemed really excited with loads of banter flying around. We took the guys out to some of our secret trails to out their riding skills to the limit. Once the riding got underway the noise levels dropped considerably as last nights hangovers kicked in and people realised that they weren't as fit as they thought they were!

After a morning of riding the trails and bomb holes of Brandon/Thetford we stopped for a drink and something to eat over at the High Lodge Visitors Centre. Once refueled we hit the trails again and headed back over to the Brandon side of the forest.

Energy levels were starting to get low by the end of the afternoon so we headed back to base for a much needed cuppa and a rest before everybody headed off for some well earned dinner in a local pub.

Normally on these rides we award a "crash of the day" for the person who had the worst/funniest crash. Amazingly yesterday nobody crashed at all so we weren't able to give it out! The "rider of the day" award was given to the stag Jon for trying every line or drop that was put in front of him during the day and being an all round legend!

Gold Medal Sports sponsor NEW Iceni Velo cycling club

Gold Medal Sports are proud to announce that we will be supporting Norfolk's newest Cycling Club Iceni for the coming season. Iceni Velo have formed from the former Streelife Cycles/Extreme Sports Therapy Unit race team that have been a key player on the local race scene over the last few years. The idea of the new club is to be more inclusive and allow riders of all abilities, ages and gender the opportunity to ride with each other. The club will cater for most cycling disciplines including road, mountain bike and cyclo cross. The club will be organising a series of club races during the coming season to increase the number of riders that have the opportunity to compete in a competitive cycle race.

Gold Medal Sports Managing Director, Jon Osborne said;

"We have teamed up with Iceni Velo to help give more people the opportunity to receive top quality cycling coaching in Norfolk. We will be providing a series of coaching sessions for junior riders to help them improve their skills and confidence."

"We will also be providing funding advice and support to the club to make sure that they benefit fully from any external funding opportunities that arise. We look forward to developing a successful relationship with the club over the next few years"

Mountain Bike Leaders Course for Tri-A-Sport

Today we ran the second MIAS training day for the guys and girls from Tri-A-Sport. They are all experienced coaches and good riders in a variety of disciplines so took to MTB leading really well. The weather in Brandon Country Park was quite grey and dull but it stayed dry all day. Our MTB tutor/instructor Adam was on top form all day! Adam has got so many stories and a joke for all occasions.

The trainee instructors have completed there Level 1/2 training and now have to go away and plan a session which they must deliver to the rest of the group on their assessment day in three weeks time. Good luck to everyone!!

There are a few pictures below or you could go to our Facebook page ("Gold Medal Sports") to see the full gallery with over 100 pictures in.

First MIAS Mountain Bike Leaders Course of 2011

On Friday 7th/Saturday 8th January we ran our first Level 1/2 MIAS Mountain Bike Leaders training of 2011 at Brandon Country Park. The morning started off grey and wet but by lunch time the sun had come out to shine. We had 8 students on the course from City College Norwich who are all on the Sport (Outdoor Adventure) BTEC Extended Diploma course at the college and they all showed that they are good leaders as well as having some good riding skills!
